Microblading: I finally plucked up the courage

microblading

I had been looking into microblading for a long time, but was scared stiff by the thick, dark, caterpillar looking brows I was seeing around Sydney.

I’m naturally fair, so the thought of having two dark thick brows sent shivers down my spine. However, when Noushin got hold of me and asked if I was interested (after much research and basically stalking her Instagram account) I decided yes I was.

My decision was made easily after I had seen my hairdressers brows that looked so natural. My hairdresser is midlife, so it was also more reassurance for me.

As I’ve gotten older, my brows have thinned out (I don’t pluck them either) I’ve just always had very fine, thin brows. Each day I’d draw them in with a brow pencil, and god help me if I went swimming or sweated, the bloody things would disappear.

It was time for action, and I have to say, I couldn’t be happier with my results.

I can honestly say, it was the best thing I’ve done. It was easy, painless, little recovery (apart from not getting them wet for a few weeks), and a touch up after a few months. What on earth took me so long.

My criteria for getting my brows done was simple; I wanted them to look natural, I wanted a custom colour that worked with my skin tone, I wanted someone I could trust and I wanted to be paying for experience not an expensive studio.

Below are my before and after. Before I had non-existent side brows (so no tail) and after my first session I finally had more definition. The second set of images are after my touch-up appointment, where I asked for more shape. I am extremely happy with the results.

Below are some more examples of Noushin’s work. I love how natural both look.

I’ve detailed all your need to know questions;

Did it hurt? No not at all. Noushin uses medical grade numbing and asks all the way through if it is hurting. I would say the pain is a 1 out of 10 (but not painful at all). It feels like a scratch.

How long does it last? It can last anywhere between one and three years, which all depends on skin type, age and aftercare.  Touch-ups are recommended yearly.

How much does it cost? The cost with Noushin is $790

How long does it take? The whole process from start to finish took about three hours max (and that included numbing and prep time). Noush took her time to get it right.

Can you get a colour to suit your complexion and natural colour? Yes, you can.

What aftercare is involved? I had to apply a cream and keep my brows dry for just over a week. It is completely manageable.

Did you get to see the shape before it was applied? Absolutely. Noushin spent a lot of time getting the shape right. Measurements are done and the shape is constantly corrected until you are happy. Noushin went very conservatively with me (which is what I asked for). At my follow-up appointment, I asked for more shape and length and a slightly darker colour. My advice is go slowly and build it up if necessary. It’s easy to add but not so easy to get rid of.

Is it like an instant face lift? In a way, yes. It has opened my eyes up and given me brow shape that I have never had. I absolutely love it.

Would you get it done again? In a heartbeat!

Is it worth the money? Yes, for me it definitely is. It’s one make-up step I don’t need to worry about and it really has brightened by face up, and I was very self-conscious of my brows as they were falling out.

Need to know:

  • Your eyebrows will look dark after you have them done. Do not stress out because they will fade after around seven days. This is completely normal.
  • Do not get them wet especially within the first week.
  • Typical healing time is about two weeks.
  • No Tanning (UV exposure), Swimming, Saunas, Hot tubs, Gymnasiums or any activity that may cause you to sweat excessively in the first two weeks.
  • Your brows may feel itchy during the healing process, do not itch them or scratch any scabs.

My brows were done by Noushin from Sydney Microblading Studio. You can contact Noushin on 0466 362216 or email on info@eyecouture.com.au. Noushin operates from her studio in Cabarita. Noushin is on Instagram @noush.eyecouture.brows, and also has a website.

Noushin is the owner and will personally do your brows for you. You aren’t getting a staff member with little experience here; you are getting the owner who is LA qualified.

Please note. The pictures of me are all from my phone. No filters, no make-up (I wanted to give a true and correct representation of what the brows looked like straight afterwards). My treatment was complimentary.
