There is nothing more comfortable than running around town in a pair of sneakers, just add a dress and you have style and comfort right there.
It is also the perfect trans-seasonal outfit. For those days when it’s a bit cooler or wet and you need something more substantial on your feet.
It took me a while to come to the sneaker with dress trend. I thought I was too short, too old and it was unflattering. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
There is nothing more stylish than a fabulous dress, a pair of equally great sneakers and a blazer or denim/leather jacket if you want a more casual weekend look.
It’s a look that says I mean business, but I’m fun, relaxed, fashionable and super stylish (oh, and don’t forget comfortable). It’s a look that says, ‘I just threw this on but I look pretty damn good’.
The sneaker/dress combo works if you don’t try too hard, just grab a dress you love and that you feel confident in, your favourite sneakers and you are good to go. You don’t need to over think it.
I have fallen in love with this combination. Mostly because of the comfort factor, but also because I can look a bit more stylish, but casually cool too. Don’t think you’re too old for this look, there couldn’t be anything further from the truth. This look is timeless.
Here are my top tips
Keep the length of your dress either midi or longer (just my personal preference)
White sneakers are always versatile and a staple (but if you dare go for colour – why not)
A tailored jacket will elevate the look from super casual to dresser
Denim or a leather jacket is perfect for a weekend/casual look
In winter pair with a chunky knit
A slip dress looks great with sneakers – the perfect weekend outfit
This look works well with a pretty floral dress – especially during the day
Colour looks great – go bold with the dress
There are so many sneakers on the market from cheaper to expensive, there really is something to suit everyone’s budget – and they all look just as good as each other, you don’t need to spend a lot of money to look great
This look suits every shape, height and age
Keep accessories simple, the dress says it all
Everyone from the high street stores, think Glasson’s, Zara, Witchery, Country Road, H & M, Top Shop, Seed, Sports Girl, Susan etc do great dresses at reasonable prices (and some do sneakers as well). Shoe stores such as Wittner do a range of great sneakers, as does La Coste and most sports stores (think ADIDAS etc).
You don’t need to spend a lot. A complete look including a dress, denim jacket and sneakers can be achieved for just over a $100.00 (we kid you not, a Glassons denim jacket – really great quality for $50 and it will last seasons, sneakers from H & M $30, and a a dress from H & M $50). It could be cheaper if you shop in sales too. Trust me, you don’t need to spend a lot.
If you have a bit more money to spend, think Zimmerman (dresses) and Gucci (their iconic sneaker). The perfect combination for those that want high end.
You can also mix and match high end with more affordable pieces. Think a Zara dress with a pair of Gucci shoes and a Glasson’s denim jacket. So many options.
Most importantly, have fun with it, and enjoy being comfortable yet stylish. It doesn’t matter how much or how little you spend; this look can be pulled off at any budget and look as equally fabulous.
